Ed Sheeran’s Love for KATSEYE’s “Gnarly” Led to New Single “Animal”

Ed Sheeran’s admiration for KATSEYE has grown into one of pop music’s newest high-profile collaborations.

The British singer-songwriter revealed that he first discovered the global girl group’s breakout single “Gnarly” while traveling in Mexico last year. Impressed by what he heard, Sheeran reached out directly to the group and expressed interest in writing music together.

That conversation ultimately led to “Animal,” KATSEYE’s latest single, which arrived on July 24. Sheeran recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, sharing studio footage that captures the song taking shape from its earliest ideas through the final recording sessions.

According to Sheeran, the track explores the contrast between the polished image people often present to the world and the more uninhibited side that only close friends and loved ones get to see. The concept became the foundation for a collaboration that blends KATSEYE’s energetic pop style with Sheeran’s signature songwriting approach.

The release is accompanied by a music video featuring a special appearance from actress Demi Moore, who helps introduce the song’s playful, high-energy theme before the group launches into its choreography.

“Animal” serves as another preview of KATSEYE’s upcoming EP, WILD, which is scheduled for release on August 14. Fans will also get a closer look at the group’s journey when the companion film KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS premieres on August 12.

For Sheeran, the project adds another songwriting collaboration to his résumé while highlighting his willingness to champion emerging artists whose music genuinely catches his attention.
