Ed Sheeran may be one of the world’s biggest pop stars, but he credits his wife, Cherry Seaborn, with being his ultimate hit filter.
On a recent episode of Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce, Sheeran shared that he only plays new music for Seaborn when she’s in a good mood. “Otherwise,” he joked, “if she’s not feeling it, the song’s dead.” Her honest taste, he says, is often the final word.
“Cherry can kill a song,” he added, laughing. But she’s also helped shape some of his biggest hits. After writing several tracks in a single day, it was Seaborn who singled out “Bad Habits” as the one to finish. That song went on to reach No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. She also backed “Shivers,” which peaked at No. 4.
The couple’s kids are also early listeners. His recent track “Sapphire,” from the upcoming album Play (out September 12), is already a toddler favorite. Kelce shared that her own child declared it “my favorite song.”
Currently on the road with The Mathematics Tour, Sheeran seems more grounded than ever. With a trusted inner circle guiding him, his next era is poised to resonate with fans both big and small.
