The NBA has indefinitely suspended Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green following his ejection from Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns. This marks Green’s second suspension this season, reflecting the league’s concern over his repeated unsportsmanlike acts.
In a significant move, the league stated Green would need to fulfill specific conditions set by both the league and the team before returning to play. These conditions, however, remain undisclosed. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Green is expected to engage in discussions with Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy and his agent regarding counseling and assistance moving forward.
The incident that led to this suspension occurred in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 119-116 loss to the Suns. Green, in an altercation with Suns center Jusuf Nurkić, swung and struck Nurkić in the face, leading to his immediate ejection from the game. Nurkić later criticized the action as unrelated to basketball, and Suns coach Frank Vogel condemned it as reckless and dangerous.
This suspension comes just weeks after Green’s return from a five-game suspension for putting Minnesota Timberwolves forward Rudy Gobert in a chokehold. Acknowledging a need for growth, Green faces his sixth career suspension and has been ejected three times this season, the most among active players in the league.
As Green contemplates his future in the league, the Warriors, currently with a 10-13 record, prepare to face the Los Angeles Clippers without him.
