Earlier yesterday, Drake and his management decided to withdraw the rapper’s two Grammy nominations including Certified Lover Boy for Best Rap Album and “Way 2 Sexy” for Best Rap Performance.
According to reports, the reason for withdrawing the nominations has not been specified, but it has been confirmed that Drake was the one who facilitated the removal.
About a year ago, Drake called for the Grammys to be replaced with “Something new that can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.” This comment came after the awards show snubbed the Weeknd, who had one of the top albums and singles of 2021.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after,” he wrote in his Instagram Story at the time.
Drake, who has been named in lawsuits regarding the recent Astroworld tragedy, is still set to perform with Kanye West at the “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert in Los Angeles later this week.
