Drake thrilled his hometown fans on Friday night (August 2) at Budweiser Stage in Toronto with exciting news: he’s working on a new collaborative album with his OVO labelmate, PartyNextDoor.
During PartyNextDoor’s “Sorry I’m Outside” Tour stop, Drake took the stage for an unexpected hour-long set of R&B songs. “On behalf of me and Party, we’ve been working on something for y’all,” he announced. “So, you get the summer over with… When it gets a little chilly, the PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you.”
PartyNextDoor had already delivered a career-spanning show filled with R&B hits and deep cuts. After his set, the stage lights came back on, revealing Drake at the microphone. “I’m here tonight as a thank you to each and every one of you for all your years of unwavering support,” he said, showing genuine appreciation for his loyal Toronto fans.
Drake’s R&B-only set was a rare treat, featuring deeper cuts and live debuts. He kicked off with “Sweeterman,” followed by the first live performance of “Wah Gwan Delilah,” and continued with favorites like “Practice,” “Connect,” “Finesse,” “Pipe Down,” and “Redemption.” He also brought out OVO artist Roy Woods for their 2015 collaboration “Drama.”
PartyNextDoor rejoined Drake on stage for hits like “Come and See Me,” with Drake praising him as the “King of R&B” and his favorite R&B singer. He credited PartyNextDoor for inspiring him and changing his life and sound.
With a collaborative album on the horizon, fans can expect to hear more of Drake’s softer side soon.
