Dr. Dre recently served Georgia Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green with a formal request to stop using his music in order to avoid legal action. It was reported that Dre’s attorney, Howard E. King sent the formal cease and desist letter on Monday, January ninth, giving her two business days to remove all unauthorized use of the track “Still D.R.E.” from her social media accounts.
The letter follows a video that was shared by the controversial lawmaker on Twitter on Monday that showed her walking through Congress as Dr. Dre’s 1999 hit played in the background. Dr. Dre made a statement when he found out about the video saying, “I don’t license my music to politicians, especially someone as divisive and hateful as this one.”
The letter reiterated Dr. Dre’s disapproval accusing Marjorie Taylor Greene of “wrongfully exploiting [“Still D.R.E.”] through the various social media outlets to promote [her] divisive and hateful political agenda.”
Prior to sending the cease and desist, Dre’s group contacted Twitter and had the post removed. Then, she responded with a message that was captioned on Twitter , “The next episode..” The response reads, “While I appreciate the creative chord progression, I would never play your words of violence against women and police officers, and your glorification of the thug life and drugs.”
Back in 2021, Democrats in the House of Representatives demanded that she be taken out from Congress over a number of controversial statements that she had made on Facebook between the years of 2018 and 2019. Greene had a number of posts calling for the execution of several prominent democrats. She also made some anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic statements, as well as supporting the idea that the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida was staged.
She is currently still a Congressional representative for the state of Georgia, House Democrats were able to get Green stripped of all her legislative committee assignments.
