Dolly Parton has just announced that she will be bowing out of the running for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2022 class of inductees.
“I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out,” she said.
When this year’s nominees were announced, the Chairman of the Hall, John Sykes, said that the artists each had “a profound impact on the sound of youth culture.”
While Parton explained that she felt “extremely and grateful” for the nomination, she also expressed not feeling as if she had “earned that right.”
“This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future,” Parton said in her charming way. “Which I have always wanted to do!”
The newest Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees will be announced in May, with an official induction ceremony in the fall.
