Doechii Sets the Record Straight on Grammy Performance Authenticity

At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, rapper Doechii delivered a dynamic performance of her hits “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River.” The set was marked by intricate choreography, including somersaults and acrobatic stunts, showcasing her commitment to a captivating live experience.

Despite the show’s complexity, some viewers speculated that Doechii may have lip-synched portions of her performance. Addressing these claims, the 26-year-old artist took to TikTok on February 15 to clarify the situation. Visibly frustrated, she stated, “I can’t possibly get on here and say this calmly or nicely: y’all are stupid as hell. So slow! That is my DJ’s voice picking up on the lines that I can’t say because I’m doing A SOMERSAULT.” She emphasized that the entire performance was live, even more impressive given that she was battling bronchitis and the flu at the time. Doechii added, “I was sick as a dog… performing my ass off in a straddle on … .”

Her Grammy night was further highlighted by winning the award for Best Rap Album for “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” In her emotional acceptance speech, Doechii reflected on her journey, expressing gratitude for her support system and sharing an inspiring message: “I know that there is … … watching me right now. And … .”

Doechii’s unwavering dedication to her craft, even in the face of health challenges, underscores her authenticity as a live performer and her commitment to delivering genuine artistry to her audience.
