On Sunday, female engineering students at UW-Madison showed attendees to their event that girls can be Disney princess’ and engineers at the same time. Many members of the UW-Madison Society of Women Engineers claim they were never given that same opportunity to be able to learn about engineering as kids. Because of that they have created Disney Day in order to get the girls interested in the field.
The attendees of all ages were able to spend the day being involved in Disney themed STEM activities, such as Cinderella’s carriage and making Elsa’s snow.
Abby Clark, one of the organizers stated, “Getting these kids interested at a young age is really important just to know that they can do it, especially when it comes to underrepresented genders in engineering, We have a bunch of little girls here which is really good to see, and they seem really into it.”
Disney Day is the primary outreach program for the Society of Women Engineers this semester.
