Deftones Honor Brent Hinds and Unveil “Private Music” Live in Vancouver

On August 22, at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, Deftones delivered an emotionally charged performance that both honored the late Brent Hinds and celebrated the launch of their newest album, Private Music. Frontman Chino Moreno paused mid-set to dedicate their haunting track “Entombed” to his “very dear friend,” Brent Hinds, whose sudden passing earlier in the week reverberated through the metal community.

But the night wasn’t just about tribute—it was also about fresh beginnings. Deftones performed all three single releases from Private Music live for the first time: the atmospheric “my mind is a mountain,” the evocative “milk of the madonna,” and the powerful “infinite source,” which had debuted with a music video on album release day.

The full show blended new material with classic favorites, from deep cuts like “Digital Bath” and “Around the Fur” to tour highlights like “Engine No. 9” in the encore.

Deftones’ Vancouver performance managed to strike a moving balance—mourning a beloved peer while boldly announcing their next sonic chapter.
