D’Angelo has always had success in the music industry, dating as far back as 1996 when he was first nominated for a Grammy, but recently The Vanguard has joined up with him to produce some real hits and award winners.
In fact, D’Angelo and The Vanguard was nominated for three awards at the Grammys this past Monday, winning two of them. While they didn’t come home with the Record of the Year, they won the awards for the Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song.
This marks D’Angelo’s third and fourth Grammy wins, and his first since 2001 when “Voodoo” and “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” won him awards for Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
His album with The Vanguard, “Black Messiah,” is his first album release since “Voodoo” in 2000.
