Dan Schneider Sues Over Defamation in ‘Quiet on Set’ Docuseries

Dan Schneider, the creator behind some of Nickelodeon’s most iconic children’s shows, has launched a defamation lawsuit against the producers of the docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The series, which aired on Investigation Discovery (ID) in March, has been labeled by Schneider as a “hit job” that wrongfully implicates him in severe criminal activities.

Filed on May 1 in Los Angeles Superior Court, the lawsuit targets Warner Bros. Discovery, Maxine Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz. Schneider, who helmed projects like “All That” and “iCarly,” asserts that the series falsely accused him of sexually abusing child actors, a claim he vehemently denies. The complaint highlights that although other individuals connected with Nickelodeon were convicted of sexual crimes, Schneider himself was neither aware of nor involved in any such activities.

Schneider criticizes specific episodes and the trailer of the docuseries for damaging his reputation by insinuating criminal behavior, which he attributes to sensationalism aimed at boosting viewership and profits. Despite acknowledging past shortcomings in leadership and professionalism on set, Schneider contends that the documentary’s allegations grossly misrepresent his character and actions, misleading viewers for the sake of ratings. His legal action seeks to address these purported falsehoods and restore his reputation. Responses from ID and the co-defendants regarding the lawsuit are still pending.
