Dakota Johnson to Star in Sony’s New Marvel Thriller ‘Madame Web’

Sony is expanding its Marvel universe with the introduction of “Madame Web,” a suspense thriller starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney. The film’s first trailer has set the stage for a new era of web-slinging heroes.

Johnson portrays Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic with potential clairvoyant abilities, giving her a glimpse into the future and a connection to a world intertwined with spiders. The trailer reveals her alliance with a group of young women, including Julia Carpenter, portrayed by Sweeney, who is destined to become Spider-Woman.

The ensemble cast features Isabela Merced, Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, and Zosia Mamet, promising a diverse and dynamic portrayal of characters. Directed by SJ Clarkson and co-written with Claire Parker, “Madame Web” signals a significant milestone as Sony’s first comic book adaptation with a female lead.

Set to release on February 14, 2024, “Madame Web” follows the success of Sony’s “Venom” series and “Morbius,” adding a fresh dimension to the studio’s Marvel character lineup. This venture into a female-led narrative marks a pivotal shift in the superhero genre, showcasing Sony’s commitment to diversifying its storytelling in the superhero realm.
