THE ROXANNE IS BACK. Mulberry’s cult noughties bag — the one that barely left Kate Moss’s arm and quickly became Alexa Chung‘s go-to — has been reimagined for 2025, fronted by the multi-award winning powerhouse actress, singer, and fashion icon, Cynthia Erivo.
As Harper’s Bazaar reports, back in 2004, the Roxanne wasn’t just popular, it was a phenomenon. Heavy on buckles, a bit oversized, and chaotic, it mirrored the messy glamour of the era. Now, two decades later, Mulberry hasn’t just dusted her off — they’ve given her siblings. Alongside the classic, there’s a smaller version, plus two new shoulder-bag styles that swap Y2K chunkiness for sleeker, everyday versatility.
The campaign reintroduces the iconic Roxanne family of bags through a surreal and imaginative lens while highlighting Erivo’s synergy with the luxury brand’s heritage and artistry. Accompanying the campaign is a video series entitled, “Mulberry Moments,” where Erivo sits down with designer and podcaster (“The Cutting Room Floor”) Recho Omondi for an interview.
The two trade stories about growing up in London, first Mulberry encounters, and why fashion — like music or acting — hits you emotionally before it makes sense practically. It’s unexpectedly intimate, cutting through the campaign’s spectacle with a hit of realness.
The milestone that feels especially meaningful for the London native. “As a born and bred Londoner I remember longing for a Mulberry — the ultimate statement bag — so this moment really feels full circle. The campaign has captured the Roxanne bags rebellious and romantic spirit, something that represents my own style. I believe that style centres on authentic self-expression and collaboration, and this drew me to partnering with such an Iconic British brand who champion creativity, craftsmanship, and cultivate a sense of community.”
