Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Unearth 1969 Fillmore East Show for New Live Album

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young have unveiled previously unheard recordings from their historic September 20, 1969 concert at New York City’s Fillmore East. This show, part of their first tour, took place just a month after their iconic Woodstock performance. The live album, Live At The Fillmore East, 1969, is set for release on October 25 via Rhino Records. Fans can now listen to a never-before-released version of “Helplessly Hoping” from that performance.

Neil Young shared his excitement about the release, noting the authentic sound of the recordings. “We mixed at Sunset Sound with an analog echo chamber, no digital involved. Pure analog throughout the entire production,” he said.

Stephen Stills reflected on the energy of the show: “What we lacked in finesse, we made up for in enthusiasm. We were a band on the run, expecting to fly.” Graham Nash added, “Hearing the music after all these years, you can feel the love we had for each other and the joy in the music we were creating together.”

The album features tracks from their debut album, Neil Young’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, and early versions of Déjà Vu songs, along with solo performances like Graham Nash’s “Our House,” sung to Joni Mitchell, who was in the audience.

Neil Young and Stephen Stills will reunite at a Bridge School benefit in October, while Graham Nash is set to tour, including a performance at Carnegie Hall with Judy Collins.
