Critics Choice Awards, More Events Postponed amid COVID Concerns

Earlier this week, the Critics Choice Association announced that the in-person ceremony for the Critics Choice Awards, which was initially planned for January 9th, will be postponed. The new date of the event has yet to be chosen.

The delay in this and other upcoming events is due to increased concern of yet another wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the newer Omicron variant.

According to a statement, the group decided that postponing the ceremony was “the prudent and responsible decision at this point.”

“We are in constant communication with L.A. County Health Officials, and we are currently working diligently to find a new date during the upcoming awards season in which to host our annual gala in-person with everyone’s safety and health remaining our top priority,” the statement continued. “We will be sharing additional details with our friends and colleagues throughout the entertainment industry as soon as we can.”

The Critics Choice Awards’ delay comes after news of a long list of postponements and cancellations, including the Palm Springs International Film Society’s Film Awards and the BAFTA’s annual Tea Party being scrapped, as well as the Governor Awards ceremony and the AFI Awards being delayed until more yet-to-be-determined dates.
