Country Singer Mark Chesnutt Hospitalized, Cancels Shows Due to Health Scare

Country music veteran Mark Chesnutt is recovering at home after a sudden hospitalization forced him to cancel multiple performances last week.

Chesnutt, 62, was set to open for Alabama at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge on October 16 when he was taken to the hospital. Initial reports cited “medical reasons” for his absence, with no further details provided at the time.

However, it was later revealed that the “Brother Jukebox” singer was being treated for a dangerously low sodium count and extremely high blood pressure. While his band performed without him, Chesnutt remained under observation at Baton Rouge General Hospital until Saturday.

His publicist, Don Murry Grubbs, assured fans the country icon is now stable and back home in Beaumont, Texas. Chesnutt is expected to undergo additional medical evaluations early this week.

In a statement, Chesnutt apologized to fans in Baton Rouge and Portales, New Mexico, where a second appearance at the One Portales Wine, Beer, and Music Festival had to be canceled. Organizers of that event confirmed full ticket refunds would be issued.

Whether additional tour dates will be affected remains unclear.

The incident has sparked concern among fans but also an outpouring of support, with many hoping to see Chesnutt back on stage soon—healthy and strong.
