There’s no turning back—winter is in full swing, and there’s no better time to transition the contents of your closet to reflect the new season than now. When crafting your winter capsule wardrobe, there are a few key essentials to return to season after season–think fabulous faux fur coats, notable knitwear, sturdy lug-sole boots; the list goes on.
However, as Vogue reports, there’s one cold weather classic that, according to the street style scene, reigns supreme for 2024: the humble, hardworking, corduroy.
Beloved for its heavyweight, durable fabric, the style staple promises to fight the chill on even the coldest of days. And lately, corduroy seems to have make the switch from grungy to cool girl, gaining major support from celebrities like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles in the process.
Just recently, Hailey Bieber stepped out in a pair of wide-leg taupe-colored corduroys, which she styled with a longline leather coat and a pair of sleek black loafers. The look had us all flocking to our shopping carts, eager to stock up on the latest Bieber-approved corduroy clothing.
There are several other street style stars putting their own spin on the trend, too, from Elsa Hosk to fresh-faced models-off-duty. But back to Hosk: Spotted on the city streets, the supermodel recently opted for a pleated pair of chocolate brown corduroys that were chic as they were classic. Styling-wise, she completed her winter-in-the-city outfit with a cream ladylike jacket and an oversized tote bag.
During fashion week last season, one street style industry insider was spotted wearing a pair of chestnut-colored corduroys with an oversized shearling jacket and a statement red sweater. Her finishing touch of choice? A pair of corduroy-adorned Miu Miu Mary Janes, of course.
For the non-corduroy-pant enthusiast, corduroy overshirts from Agolde and Deiji Studios make the perfect base layer, while a corduroy maxi skirt from Ganni is a fashion foundation to dress up or down all winter long. And don’t forget about Tory Burch’s colorful corduroy suit, either, which makes a seriously strong statement.
No matter how you choose to style it, corduroy is definitely having a moment.
