During the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championships, Connor Bedard put on an impressive performance. Bedard sent Canada to the semifinals with an amazing overtime goal against Slovakia on Monday and also managed to put himself on top of the country’s World Juniors record book.
Bedard opened the scoring against Slovakia and became Hockey Canada’s all-time leader in World Juniors goals with 15, and added one more before the night ended. He also assisted on Canada’s second goal of the night, giving him the Hockey Canada record for assists in a single World Juniors with 13 total. He got his second goal at a much needed time when the teams were tied 3-3 in overtime when he made his way through all three Slovakians on the ice before out deking the goalie to end the game.
Bedard also set records for points in a single World Juniors (21) and career World Juniors points (34). Prior to the tournament, Bedard was already the number one prospect in the 2023 NHL Draft, and his dominance in the World Juniors so far just makes it that much more obvious.
