Coldplay has officially cemented their place among the greatest musical acts of all time with the release of their latest album, Moon Music. The album debuted at No. 1 on the U.K. charts, marking the band’s tenth time reaching the top spot in their home country. This achievement places them in an elite group of bands that have earned 10 or more No. 1 albums, alongside iconic names such as The Beatles, Queen, and ABBA.
By securing their tenth No. 1 album, Coldplay ties with Queen and ABBA, both of whom have also reached this milestone. Coldplay is only the sixth group to ever accomplish this feat in the United Kingdom.
Leading the pack are The Beatles, with a record 15 No. 1 albums. The Rolling Stones are close behind with 14, after adding their most recent chart-topper, Hackney Diamonds, last year. U2 holds third place, having secured 11 No. 1 albums in the U.K.
Coldplay’s dominance on the charts began with their debut album Parachutes and has continued with every studio album they’ve released, including major hits like A Rush of Blood to the Head, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and Music of the Spheres. Remarkably, all ten of their studio albums have reached the top spot, with none missing the mark.
Before this week, Coldplay had been tied with British boy band Take That, which now drops to seventh place with nine No. 1 albums. Coldplay’s new milestone only further solidifies their standing as one of the most successful bands in music history.
The release of Moon Music not only showcases Coldplay’s continued popularity but also reaffirms their ability to dominate charts and captivate audiences around the world.
