According to USAtoday.com, on Wednesday the Browns made the decision to split from Mayfield, choosing to trade him to the Carolina Panthers. In return the Browns will receive a conditional fifth round pick in 2024 for Mayfield, who was formerly drafted in the 2018 draft by general manager John Dorsey. The Browns also have to pay roughly $10.5 million of Mayfield’s remaining $18.885 million dollar deal. The Browns owners made a public statement saying that, “We want to thank Baker for all his contributions to the Cleveland Browns,” Continuing to state that, “From the moment he was drafted, he gave his all for this organization and this city. With his fierce competitive spirit, he excited the fanbase and accomplished things that no player at his position had done in Cleveland for a very long time.” The Cleveland Browns are Scheduled to play their first game of the upcoming season on September 11th of this year.
