Chris Evans had no second thoughts when asked to make a surprise cameo in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
“It was a couple of years ago when Ryan [Reynolds] texted me,” Evans, 43, exclusively tells PEOPLE. “He said, ‘If you don’t like this idea, no worries. But I have something that could really bring the house down and let you reprise a character from your past.'”
Evans returns as Johnny Storm/Human Torch from Fantastic Four in Deadpool & Wolverine, which hit theaters on July 26.
“I would do anything Ryan asked,” Evans admits. “He gave me a great cameo in Free Guy, and I trust him completely. The chance to be Johnny again was irresistible. It was fun to shoot and even more fun to watch.”
Audience members who stayed through the credits witnessed Evans delivering a monologue brimming with expletives and innuendo.
“Ryan offered cue cards, but I was like, ‘Cue cards? I’m showing up off-book,'” Evans reveals. “I don’t get to say dialogue like this often. I enjoyed every second of it.”
Beyond acting, Evans has partnered with Jinx premium dog food to support the United Service Organizations (USO). Starting August 1, Jinx will donate 5% of every Walmart purchase to the USO, including the USO Canine Program.
“Dodger, my dog, is the real test for me,” Evans says, referring to his pet with wife Alba Baptista. “He loves it, so I knew I wanted to be part of this.”
Next for Evans is the Christmas movie Red One, debuting in November and co-starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and J.K. Simmons as Santa Claus.
“I love Christmas movies and Christmas itself. So, I jumped at the chance to be a part of this. Seeing the final cut was a relief—it’s fantastic,” Evans shares.
