Chris Brown is once again at the center of legal controversy, this time across the Atlantic. The R&B singer was arrested Thursday in Manchester, England, in connection with an alleged assault that took place at a London nightclub in February 2023.
While UK authorities did not officially name the suspect, citing laws that protect trial integrity, multiple sources—including The Sun and the Associated Press—have confirmed the arrest involves the 36-year-old artist. Music producer Abe Diaw alleges Brown struck him with a bottle and continued to attack him while he was on the floor at TAPE nightclub. Diaw reportedly required hospitalization and has since filed a $16 million civil suit against Brown.
At the time of the alleged incident, Brown was performing on a UK tour. He is slated to return this summer for his “Breezy Bowl” anniversary tour.
This arrest adds to Brown’s troubled legal history, including his 2009 felony assault conviction involving Rihanna and more recent sexual misconduct allegations tied to an incident aboard Sean “Diddy” Combs’ yacht, which are detailed in a Warner Bros. documentary. Brown is currently suing Warner Bros. for defamation.
As of now, Brown’s legal team has not publicly commented on the arrest.
