Chicago Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III was hospitalized following an injury sustained during Thursday night’s preseason victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, with a final score of 34-21 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The incident occurred on the first play of the second half when Coleman tackled Kansas City’s Cornell Powell near the Chiefs’ sideline. After the hit, players from both teams gathered as medical personnel attended to Coleman, placing him on a stabilizing board and stretcher. Although his face mask was removed, his helmet remained on as he was loaded into a Kansas City Fire Department ambulance and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus provided a brief update after the game, noting that Coleman had movement in his limbs and even gave a thumbs-up to players and coaches before being taken off the field. However, no further updates on his condition were available.
Coleman, 26, spent the last two seasons with the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks. He played college football at Texas Tech and began his professional career in 2020 with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent.
