Celebrating Toby Keith: A Tribute to a Country Legend at the 2024 CMT Music Awards

The 2024 CMT Music Awards are poised to honor the legendary Toby Keith, who passed away earlier this year at 62 after a battle with stomach cancer. In a special segment, country music stalwarts Brooks & Dunn, Lainey Wilson, and rock icon Sammy Hagar will collaborate, backed by members of Keith’s band, Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens, to pay homage to Keith’s indelible mark on the genre.

Keith, a towering figure in country music, was celebrated for hits like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” and “Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” amassing 30 CMT Award nominations and seven wins throughout his career. His contribution extended beyond his music; he co-hosted the CMT Awards, showcasing his charisma and love for the genre.

In addition to the tribute, the CMT network will air “CMT Music Awards Celebrate Toby Keith,” a special that looks back at his memorable CMT Awards moments, further cementing his legacy within country music.

Keith’s passing elicited tributes from across the music world, highlighting his influence and the void his departure leaves. His posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame is a testament to his impact on country music and pop culture.

This year’s CMT Music Awards, hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, promises an evening of celebration and reflection, honoring one of country music’s finest talents alongside performances by the genre’s current stars.
