Despite attempting to “respectfully bow out” of the consideration to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, Dolly Parton will be part of the Class of 2022 alongside Duran Duran, Eminem, Pat Benatar, and others.
The country queen initially tried to remove herself from the running, saying that she didn’t “feel that I have earned that right.”
Over time, and as the Rock Hall voting came to a close, Parton reconsidered her hesitation.
“I was trying to be nice and good about not trying to take something away from somebody that had truly earned it,” she said in a recent interview, later vowing that to really “earn my title,” she would record a rock and roll album.
“I’ve been working so hard on so many things and I’ve got to overcome this so-called controversy, which I never meant it to be that,” Parton explained. “So now I’m in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. So I’m going to have to do a rock album at some point. … Now I may have to call my album Rock Star!”
While fans will have to wait for Parton’s so-called rock album to come to fruition, the world can experience just a taste of a Rock and Roll Dolly by revisiting her 2002 cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”
