PBS has announced it will air a documentary about legendary artist Cat Stevens in December, the exact date has yet to be identified. In the documentary, Cat performs all your favorites, including “Miles from Nowhere,” “Oh Very Young,” “Wild World,” and our all-time classic, “Peace Train.”
Cat Stevens hit it big in the late 60s and early 70s with his ‘Matthew and Son’ LP which was popular in the UK, generating little interest here in the US. It wasn’t until his second album ‘New Masters’ that Americans took notice with the song ‘The First Cut is the Deepest,’ giving Rod Stewart a hit a few years later. It was Cat’s album ‘Tea For the Tillerman’ which provided the songs “Where Do the Children Play,” and “Wild World,” did Americans took notice.
Cat enjoyed tremendous success in the 70s, but found the celebrity experience shallow, turning to Islam and changing his name to Yusuf Islam in the late 70s. The backlash was significant, chasing Cat from the industry for a time. It’s good to see that he’s back while holding onto his religious beliefs.
