Carol Burnett an American Treasure

Carol Burnett celebrated with her fans during her ‘50th Anniversary of the Carol Burnett show, and the big take away is ‘can someone please find a show for her quickly?’ The reason is very simple; the CBS special attracted over 15 million viewers, making it the highest rated ‘non-sports’ show of the night.

Did you know that her major was Journalism, but she switched to theater art and English, working towards being a play write upon graduation? Here are a few more Carol Burnett fun facts…

Both Carol’s parents were alcoholics, and as often time comics find roots in pain and misery, she used life’s circumstances to generate a unique wit and odd sense of reality to become a star.

Carol worked as a hat check girl, waitress, and as a regular guest on one of TV’s earliest game shows, ‘Pantomime Quiz,’ in the early days. Her friend, Lucille Ball, once offered her a show of her own (Lucile and husband Desi owned the highly successful Desilu studios) but she turned it down. She was, however, the first star to appear on Sesame Street.
