If you’ve been holding onto your favorite pair of cargo shorts or pants from the 90’s, you’re in luck. In 2019, cargo and all things utility are about to be very cool again. From Givenchy and Fendi to Loewe, Hermès, and Sies Marjan, designers have us up in arms this season. If you have been following fashion at all over the past few months, you would know that this military-inspired trend is everywhere for the upcoming season.
The utilitarian style came back into fashion in the 1970s during the rise of second-wave feminism when the U.S. Senate passed to ratify the Equal Rights Act and the Roe vs. Wade decision signaled a victory for women across the nation. Then, the military-inspired style enjoyed another revival during the 1990s and early 2000s. In an ode this most recent era, cargo pants seem to be omnipresent once again. With beige arguably being the hottest color for spring 2019, the updated utility trend embraces minimalism. Embracing feminine elements, the new utilitarian aesthetic provides an equally rugged and refined look.
Aside from beige, neutral leathers, military green and khaki fabrics are the go to colors if you’re going for the utility look. The loose fitting and oversized cut continues to rock the fashion world, and this trend is no exception. Fashionistas everywhere are rocking utility vests, baggy overalls, cargo pants with chains, boiler suits and military styled jackets with large square pockets. The latest streetstyle must-haves are super fun to wear.
Here are three tips for wearing the trend:
Boiler Suits. It’s all about picking the right fit. Pick one that hugs our curves in the right places. The key to wearing looser clothing is accenting your curves, so you don’t look lost in your outfit.
Cargo pants with a tee or body suit. Beige is a huge color for Spring 2019. Try mixing your loose fitting pants with a beige shirt of a different fabric; leather on linen is one of my favorites looks.
Military inspired jacket with jeggings. Pick a jacket with a boxy fit, lots of large square pockets and a baggy neckline. Like I said earlier, the oversized look is still popular for Spring 2019.
