Cards Against Humanity wants you to try some Clam-O-Naise, and possibly win some cool stuff

Clam Mayonnaise? Yep, you heard that right. Clam Mayonnaise. But wait, there’s MORE to the story.

According to The Takeout, it was Black Friday of last year when “#BringBackCLAMONAISE” was able to climb its way to the #1 spot on the United States’ trending Twitter topics. Apparently, all it took to secure the top spot was Cards Against Humanity dishing out five bucks to tens of thousands of people to tweet at Hellmann’s official account.

But it turned out that the strange condiment people on Twitter rallied for wasn’t actually a real thing. Well, until now, that is.

Cards Against Humanity is currently selling jars of Clam-O-Naise for $9.99. The unique offering is described as a “deliciously tangy mayonnaise made with real clams,” and includes Cards Against Humanity’s all-new Clam Pack and a free mystery prize that’s inside the jar of mayo. Have fun with that.

While speaking with The Takeout, a Cards Against Humanity spokesperson touched on the great lengths the company went to for last year’s social media production.  “We went to an extensive effort to create a realistic fake photo of ‘Hellmann’s CLAMONAISE,’” the spokesperson said. “We bought an actual ’90s film camera, set the date to 1994, filled a vintage ’90s mayonnaise jar with actual (food-colored) mayonnaise, wrapped the jar with a label we designed, took a photo with the camera in one of our parents’ untouched ’90s kitchens, got that photo printed, and here we are.”

Hold the shell phone. Cards Against Humanity is a game company, not a mayo company. So naturally, there’s a pack of 30 new cards for its game submerged in the jar. Because, why not? They’re not exactly targeted at kids’ Christmas stockings, though. They’re described as “30 new cards about the sexual possibilities of shellfish.”

There’s also a mystery “Clam-o-Prize” in each jar. It could be clam merchandise (yuck), but it could be something expensive, like a car, a vacation or a real pearl. The car is a “one-of-a-kind Toyota CLAMRY,” the company said in a tweet.

According to CNET, the company regularly hosts bizarre promotions, including digging (and later, filling in) a hole to nowhere. And in 2021, the company tweeted out challenges, in one case paying a challenge-taker $10,000. That person won for coming closest to the number of jellybeans the game organizers were thinking about.

But that was then, and Clam-O-Naise is now. Head to  Target.com to get your hands on a jar of one today.
