A Los Angeles jury handed a swift victory to Cardi B, clearing her of all civil charges brought by former security guard Emani Ellis. In less than an hour of deliberation, the panel found Cardi B—not liable for assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, or false imprisonment.
The lawsuit stemmed from a 2018 altercation in a Beverly Hills medical building, during which Ellis alleged that Cardi B scratched her face with a three-inch acrylic nail and spat on her. Ellis sought $24 million in damages, claiming physical injury and emotional trauma. Cardi B, who was four months pregnant at the time, denied any physical contact, maintaining that it was a verbal confrontation triggered by privacy concerns. Courtroom testimony from a doctor and receptionist reinforced her account, stating they witnessed no physical altercation.
After the verdict, Cardi B delivered a defiant message: “I am not that celeb you gonna sue and think I’m gonna settle… I swear to God I am innocent.” She also warned that future frivolous lawsuits will prompt her to countersue. As the dust settles, Cardi B’s courtroom victory marks a turning point—an emphatic defense of her integrity and a stand against what she described as false allegations.
