Camp Inferno Has Girl Power On Fire

The city of Yuma, Arizona, recently held a camp to encourage girls and young women to challenge themselves and consider what they never thought was possible. The Yuma Fire Department hosted camp Inferno over the past week. The program runs over the course of three days and aims to let teen girls have a real-world firefighting experience.

Camp Inferno aims to empower young women from ages 14-19 so that they realize that they can also have careers as firefighters or even as a dispatcher.

On Wednesday, the girls learned about nutrition and how to put on their gear properly. However, on Friday and Saturday they will be tested with physical and mental exercises.

Ruth Gloria, YFD Administrative Support Supervisor explains how the girls will be put to the test. “Repelling off of a four-story building from the roof for example. We also have a search and rescue drill where everything is blacked out and they go in and look for a mannequin, you know pretend body and they search until they find it and they drag it out and rescue it.”
