Cameron Diaz is proving she’s back in full force. The actress, who returned to Hollywood after a decade-long hiatus, is set to star in Bad Day, an upcoming Netflix action-comedy directed by Jake Szymanski. Production begins this fall across New York and New Jersey.
Described as a high-energy comedy with dramatic undertones, Bad Day centers on a single mom—played by Diaz—desperately trying to keep a promise to her daughter on what becomes the worst day of her life. The film is written by Laura Solon (Office Christmas Party) and is loosely inspired by the 1993 thriller Falling Down.
This marks Diaz’s second film since returning to acting, following Back in Action with Jamie Foxx. It’s a fitting follow-up for the 52-year-old actress, who now jokes her career is all about “momcoms,” not rom-coms.
Off-screen, Diaz has been focused on family life with husband Benji Madden and their two children, Raddix and Cardinal. She’s also set to return as the voice of Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, due out in 2026, alongside franchise favorites and new castmate Zendaya.
Diaz says she’s approaching acting on her own terms now: “I reserve the right to say no—or yes. That’s the beauty of where I’m at.”
