Caitlin Clark Shatters WNBA Revenue Record at Barclays Center

Caitlin Clark may not have secured a win on Saturday afternoon, but her performance at the Barclays Center set a new WNBA revenue record. The New York Liberty’s 91-80 victory over the Indiana Fever generated more than $2 million in ticket sales, marking the highest revenue for a single game in league history, according to The Associated Press.

The game drew a sold-out crowd of over 17,000 fans, making it the third sold-out event Clark has played in this season. Her impressive presence continues to drive record-breaking attendance, following the Fever’s sold-out home opener and another capacity crowd in Connecticut for their season debut.

Selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft earlier this month, Clark has been consistently breaking viewership records. During the Hawkeyes’ run to the national championship game, Clark drew more than 18.7 million viewers for their loss to South Carolina, making it the most-watched basketball game at any level since 2019. The WNBA Draft also saw a record 2.5 million viewers, far surpassing the previous record of 600,000.

Clark’s impact continued with her WNBA debut, which attracted about 2.1 million viewers, becoming the most-watched WNBA game on ESPN and ABC, and the most-watched game in the league since 2001.

Despite the Fever’s third consecutive loss on Saturday, Clark delivered her best performance yet, scoring 22 points, along with eight assists and six rebounds, shooting 9-of-17 from the field. She joins an elite group of players, including Candace Parker, Sue Bird, and Nikki McCray, who have recorded at least 50 points and 15 assists in their first three WNBA games.

Clark and the Fever will face the Sun on Monday night, aiming for their first win of the season. Given Clark’s drawing power, another sell-out crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse seems likely, continuing her trend of setting new standards for the WNBA.
