As Bruce Springsteen approaches his 75th birthday in September, fans have naturally begun to speculate about how much longer The Boss will continue to rock the stage. With several concert cancellations in recent months, concerns about his health and future performances have only grown.
However, Springsteen addressed these rumors head-on during two make-up shows in Philadelphia last week, shows that were postponed last summer due to a debilitating peptic ulcer. The ulcer kept Springsteen off the stage for months, but he’s back and determined to keep going.
“We’ve been around for 50 f—ing years. And we ain’t quitting,” Springsteen declared to the crowd in a video shared on social media. “We ain’t doing no farewell tour bulls—! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”
In his signature sarcastic style, he added, “Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name? Yeah, I want to quit that,” prompting the crowd to erupt in chants of “Bruce!”
After soaking in the adoration of his fans, Springsteen confidently reassured them, “That’s it. That’s all it takes. I ain’t going anywhere!”
Despite ongoing health issues, including a period in May when he had to postpone all concerts within a 10-day span due to vocal problems, Springsteen remains committed to his first major tour in six years.
The next scheduled stop for Springsteen and the E Street Band is set for Sept. 7 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
