There is promise of fun, inspiration and a culture clash in the first trailer for upcoming Bruce Springsteen-inspired film “Blinded by the Light” . The film is due August 14th in U.S. theaters and internationally around the same time, potentially sooner in the U.K., from New Line Cinema/Warner Bros.
“You think that this man sings for people like us?” says the father of Javed (Viveik Kalra), a South Asian Muslim teenager growing up in ‘80s England. “Bruce sings about not letting the hardness of the world stop you from letting the best of you slip away,” Javed says.
The trailer, shared on Bruce Springsteen’s social media, teases the music sequences, which Boss fans are going to love. “Blinded by the Light” is a treat and more. It’ll put a big smile on your face as it takes on serious subjects like father issues, race, economic hardship and assimilation in a quirky, joyous way. It’s like merging a Springsteen concert with a John Hughes film.
“Blinded by the Light” will be screened 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at the Montclair Film Festival. Chadha will participate in a Q&A following the film. Visit montclairfilm.org for more info.
