In a clash that’s reigniting long-standing tensions, Britney Spears has issued a strong rebuttal to shocking claims made by her ex-husband Kevin Federline in his upcoming memoir You Thought You Know.
According to excerpts obtained by The New York Times, Federline suggests Spears once watched their sons sleep while holding a knife and claims she’s in urgent need of professional help. He ominously warns, “Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change.”
Federline, who had sole custody of their sons Sean Preston and Jayden James during Spears’ 13-year conservatorship, goes so far as to call for a new movement — “Save Britney” — implying that her post-conservatorship life may be spiraling.
Spears did not stay silent.
Taking to X, she accused Federline of “constant gaslighting,” calling his claims both “hurtful and exhausting.” The pop star opened up about her painful estrangement from her sons, sharing that one has seen her for only 45 minutes in five years, and the other only four times. “I have pride too,” Spears declared. “From now on I will let them know when I am available.”
The Grammy-winning artist also accused Federline of using his memoir to cash in on her struggles. “Those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here,” she wrote.
Spears also defended her intelligence and character: “I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years.” She concluded by declaring, “I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”
The saga adds another painful chapter to a turbulent family history marked by legal battles, mental health struggles, and media frenzy. In her own 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears wrote poignantly about trading her freedom just to nap with her children during the conservatorship era — a time she now reflects on with both love and sorrow.
With Federline’s memoir soon to hit shelves, the public feud seems far from over — and the emotional fallout is already making headlines.
