Brandi Carlile recently performed for Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi when the couple decided to renew their vows. Rossi surprised DeGeneres with the vow renewal ceremony in the midst of a party that was to celebrate Rossi’s 50th birthday.
The event had Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow, as well as, Kris Jenner officiating the vow renewal ceremony. Carlile was originally just attending the event, however, De Rossi asked her to to sing some of Roberta Flack’s “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” as she surprised DeGeneres in a wedding dress.
Carlile told media on the red carpet at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 5th, that, “I was just an attendee and Portia was like, ‘Can you just burst into the first verse of ‘The First Time I Saw Your Face,’?’ And I was like, ‘Absolutely, that’s what I do, So in front of these, like, mega-celebrities, I just had to go at the top of my lungs, ‘The first time…’ and they were looking at me, like, ‘Does Brandi need some attention right now?’ It was actually a beautiful thing to witness, We love them. They are our sisters.”
Meanwhile, at the 2023 Grammys Carlile nabbed three trophies for her track “Broken Horses,” won Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. While her album In These Silent Days, won Best Americana Album.
