Country music star Blake Shelton is no stranger to funny family moments, but a FaceTime mix-up involving his stepson Zuma, 16, and music legend Vince Gill might take the cake. During a recent interview with CMT, Shelton, 48, recounted the story, which he jokingly described as “humiliating.”
The FaceTime Fumble
The incident happened when Zuma accidentally FaceTimed Vince Gill, thinking he was calling his nanny, also named Vince. Shelton recalled hearing Vince Gill’s voice echo through the house and noticing Zuma’s panicked reaction.
“I was walking through the house, and I heard Vince Gill’s voice kind of laughing,” Shelton said. “I looked and saw Zuma throw the phone down.”
When asked what happened, Zuma, clearly confused, told Shelton:
“I don’t know. There was some man that answered Vince’s phone.”
The accidental call reached Vince Gill while he was in Amsterdam, on tour with The Eagles. Despite the unexpected timing, Gill decided to answer the call, assuming Shelton might be the one dialing.
Gill’s Hilarious Reaction
After realizing what had happened, Shelton reached back out to Gill, who had a good laugh about the situation.
“Man, I was laughing,” Gill told Shelton. “I thought you must have been drunk or something.”
The mix-up has since become a cherished memory for the family, though Zuma was initially scared of the “mystery man” on the other end of the line.
Zuma, Vince Gill’s Biggest Fan
Fast forward a few years, and Zuma has had a complete change of heart. Now a devoted Vince Gill fan, he’s eager to recreate the call.
“A couple of years later, Zuma is the biggest Vince Gill fan in the world,” Shelton shared. “He’s like, ‘Can we FaceTime him again?!’”
However, Shelton confirmed with a laugh that a repeat call isn’t in the cards:
“That will never happen again, actually. That was humiliating for me!”
A Loving Stepdad
In addition to Zuma, Shelton is stepdad to Kingston, 18, and Apollo, 10, whom his wife Gwen Stefani shares with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Shelton has embraced the role wholeheartedly, often sharing his pride in the boys’ accomplishments and moments like these that bring humor and joy to their blended family.
