It’s official: Birkenstock has gone bridal. The iconic sandal brand has collaborated with New York City-based bridal design house Danielle Frankel on a line of wedding-ready footwear.
Described in a press release as “an ode to life’s most cherished occasions,” the six styles include versions of Birkenstock’s iconic Boston clog and Arizona sandal styles that incorporate “lustrous fabrics, exquisite materials and refined details that nod to the designer’s bridal collections.”
And as WWD reports, last week Birkenstock and Danielle Frankel celebrated their buzzy bridal footwear collaboration at the intimate West Village steakhouse The Eighty Six, with guests including AnnaSophia Robb, Ella Emhoff, Fern Mallis and more names.
The sandal styles, which feature materials such as luxurious satin and pearls, were displayed throughout the restaurant and even carried on a waiter’s tray as guests enjoyed a cocktail portion and a seated dinner. Danielle Frankel Hirsch and Jason Corvi, director of global communications, special projects and collaborations at Birkenstock, addressed the guests amid the waves of courses being served.
Corvi shared in his speech, “At Birkenstock, we learned a great deal of innovation and technique through this project because we worked with very delicate fabrics, and satin and pearls and embroideries, which we learned a lot from in terms of technique. So thank you for that.”
Frankel Hirsch said, “For us, getting to do the process of like — what can we do? How can we push the Birkenstock, which is such an iconic shoe, and really push it into a world within our bridal universe, and just make it feel so Danielle Frankel but also so Birkenstock. It was just a really beautiful project for us all.”
The bridal designer continued, “Just to echo what Jason said, we kind of fell in love with each other when the project started. I think that’s when the best collaborations come, is when you can truly have chemistry with your partners. And just through this whole process, we’ve also realized that surprising and delighting the customer could not be more exciting.”
The collaboration was released on February 12, with prices ranging from $660 to $950. You can shop the line at birkenstock.com, daniellefrankelstudio.com and select retailers.
