Comedian Bill Burr has never been one to mince words, and his latest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was no exception. On Tuesday night, Burr took aim at online critics and conspiracy theorists for their handling—or mishandling—of opinions regarding the ongoing wildfires in Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and other parts of Los Angeles.
Burr opened his segment by defending first responders and city officials, who have faced mounting scrutiny for their wildfire response. “Everybody did a great job—unlike the internet,” Burr quipped. He mocked those criticizing the use of helicopters, sarcastically asking if people expected pilots to fly into dangerous 100-knot winds during the height of the fires. “You want to do that at night, you f—king lunatic?” he said, channeling his signature exasperation.
The comedian also shared his personal experience of evacuating with his family, describing how they “piled into the SUV like everybody else.” Despite the chaos, Burr praised firefighters and utility workers for their tireless efforts to clear roads and restore power during a natural disaster he called “the perfect awful thing.”
Taking Down Conspiracy Theories
Burr saved his sharpest barbs for conspiracy theorists. He dismissed rumors that homeless individuals or illegal immigrants deliberately caused the fires, ridiculing the idea of a homeless person traveling from Altadena to the Pacific Palisades to start fires. “What, did he have a hang glider?” Burr joked, drawing laughter from Kimmel and the studio audience.
He also addressed concerns about looting, noting how media outlets focus on the sensational while ignoring larger issues, like insurance companies profiting off disasters. “CNN and Fox News are not going to bring up the insurance companies that are just going to keep everybody’s premiums and still give themselves a bonus,” Burr said, a comment that earned cheers from the audience.
Closing with a Punchline
Burr concluded his fiery monologue with his trademark blend of humor and brutal honesty. His unapologetic stance and wit underscored his frustration with critics and conspiracy theorists alike, leaving no doubt about where he stands on the matter.
At least the first responders can count on one vocal supporter in the entertainment world.
