Big Sean Reflects on Beyoncé’s Feedback Regarding Famous Track

In a recent interview, rapper Big Sean shared insights into the reactions of music icons Beyoncé and JAY-Z upon hearing his 2014 hit, “I Don’t F**k With You.” The track, known for its candid lyrics, prompted contrasting advice from the power couple.

During a visit to Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s residence, Big Sean played the song for them. Beyoncé expressed reservations, stating, “It’s a little disrespectful.” She suggested incorporating a female perspective to balance the song’s tone, recommending, “Maybe you should put Nicki Minaj on it, for a female’s voice.”

Contrarily, JAY-Z viewed the track favorably, interpreting it as a lighthearted expression. He reassured Big Sean, saying, “People are going to get it — that it’s just you having fun.” He further emphasized the song’s potential, texting Sean, “Every day you’re not putting that song out, you’re losing.”

Despite the mixed feedback, Big Sean harbored doubts about the song’s reception, considering it “a little dumb” and contemplating its exclusion from his album Dark Sky Paradise. However, bolstered by JAY-Z’s support, he proceeded with the release.

The decision proved fruitful, as “I Don’t F**k With You” achieved significant success, reaching No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning a nine-times platinum certification.

This anecdote underscores the diverse perspectives within the music industry and highlights the importance of trusting one’s artistic instincts.
