How about a tally of some of our favorite Christmas songs from our favorite bands and singers? Here’s our ‘Best Of’ list this year…
.) “Christmas Time Is Here Again” by the Beatles
.) “I Believe in Father Christmas” by Greg Lake
.) “Little Drummer Boy / Peace on Earth” by David Bowie/Bing Crosby
.) “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home” by Darlene Love
.) “Little Saint Nick” by the Beach Boys
.) “‘Little Drummer Boy” by Bob Seger
.) “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” by Bruce Springsteen
.) “Wonderful Christmastime’” by Paul McCartney & Wings
.) “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band
Prologue: David Bowie hated the song Bing Crosby wanted him to sing on Bing’s Christmas special, so they decided to sing two separate songs together, no rehearsal. This song is a classic and a one take live recording. John Lennon’s tune is the best ever (in our opinion) while Paul McCartney’s Christmas song demonstrates why lyricist John was so important to the Beatles success. Greg Lakes song is haunting, the Beach Boys so predictable and Darlene Love is a must for any rock holiday countdown.
