Behind the Scenes of Doechii’s Show-Stopping 2025 Grammy Performance

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Doechii delivered a performance that has been hailed as an instant classic, seamlessly blending her Florida roots with Broadway-inspired theatrics. The act commenced with Doechii donning a Thom Browne short suit, which was dramatically removed by her dancers to reveal a white two-piece ensemble. This wardrobe transition marked the shift from her song “Catfish” to “Denial Is A River.” The meticulously executed choreography and flawless vocals left the audience in awe, with fellow artist Billie Eilish notably mouthing “Oh my God” in response.

The creative process behind this standout performance was both intensive and collaborative. Creative director C Prinz, who previously collaborated with Doechii on the “Crazy” music video, was approached on Christmas Eve 2024 to conceptualize the Grammy act. Together, they envisioned a “Doechii doll factory” set that juxtaposed swamp aesthetics with Broadway elements, aiming to create a unique visual narrative. A key aspect of the performance was the inclusion of dancers styled identically to Doechii, symbolizing the idea that while many may emulate her, there is only one true Doechii. The rehearsal process spanned four weeks, with daily sessions dedicated to perfecting the demanding choreography and ensuring seamless costume transitions.

This performance not only showcased Doechii’s artistic versatility but also solidified her presence on the global stage, leaving an indelible mark on Grammy history.
