Baseball’s Best When It Comes to WAR, Home Runs and Batting Average

Baseball season is in full swing and some teams are hitting full stride while others are struggling to find their rhythm. Today we’re going to talk about hitters in baseball who have found their stride and are killing it at the plate. Let’s talk about three of our favorite stats in baseball: WAR, home runs and batting average.

These three stats are a mix of old and new with the first being WAR. This stat is better known as “wins above replacement” and basically means how much better are you than an average replacement player. This stat includes offense, defense and base running among other parts of the game. This season two Nationals’ players lead the way! Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman lead the way while Freddie Freeman, Mike Trout, and Aaron Judge round out the top five.

When it comes to pure power, home runs are a decent way to judge it. This season the league leader in home runs as of noon Tuesday are Ryan Zimmerman and Aaron Judge with 13 home runs each. The big surprise in baseball is Eric Thames who is sitting at 12 home runs this season.

Batting average is an old stat, but one we still enjoy looking at. This season’s batting average leader (again, as of noon on Tuesday) is Ryan Zimmerman. He’s hitting .420! Bryce Harper follows him with a .385 average while Justin Turner is hitting .376 this season.

The MLB season has plenty of games left and has plenty of time for things to shake up. We enjoy analyzing the season as it goes and will report back when things get interesting!
