Automated Eateries – The Future Is Now

Would you trust a robot to cook your food? Now that automated dining experiences are becoming more common, get ready for the “bot invasion.”

These won’t be your average face-recognizing automatons or AI-powered ordering systems in fast food restaurants, oh, no.  This future boon to the dining industry (or nightmare, depending on where you stand) will be actual robots making your food, delivering room service in hotels, and even “self-driving” bots taking orders plus escorting customers to specific tables at sit down restaurants.

For those of you who remember the 1986 Stephen King film, “Maximum Overdrive,” you might be getting ready to run for the hills at the thought.  But run all you want.  The future is here.  There are already restaurants with this bot service tech in place, including San Francisco’s Creator, a bot-burger restaurant with two machines that can assemble up to 350 burgers in an hour.  That’s a big batch of burgers, folks.

With this new generation of Go-Go Gadgets entering the workforce, it’s no wonder that hotel employees around the world are getting really nervous about their new automated rivals.  According to a recent article at the New York Times, hospitality and restaurant employees have overwhelmingly stated they would gladly take job security over higher wages.

Danger, Will Robinson.  Robbie the Robot is serving it up.
