Aubrey Plaza has stepped into a brand-new role: motherhood.
The actress has welcomed her first child, a baby girl, with actor Christopher Abbott. Their daughter reportedly arrived during the final week of July, and Plaza has since been seen in New York City with the newborn.
The arrival comes just months after Plaza’s pregnancy became public in April. While the famously private actress kept much of the experience away from the spotlight, she did bring some of her trademark dry humor to conversations about becoming a mother.
Abbott also acknowledged the major change ahead while discussing the pregnancy in May, describing the prospect of becoming a parent as exciting.
Plaza and Abbott’s connection stretches back years before they became parents. The actors worked together on the 2020 psychological drama “Black Bear” and reunited onstage for the Off-Broadway production “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.” Their romantic relationship remained considerably more private than their professional collaborations.
For Plaza, the birth also arrives after an intensely difficult period in her personal life.
Her estranged husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, died in January 2025 after the couple had separated. Plaza later spoke publicly about the realities of living with grief, describing the experience as an ongoing daily struggle while also expressing gratitude for being able to continue moving forward.
Against that complicated backdrop, motherhood represents another major turn in a life that has changed considerably in a relatively short period.
Plaza has built a career by consistently taking unexpected paths, from the wonderfully deadpan April Ludgate on “Parks and Recreation” to increasingly adventurous film and television performances.
Now her newest role is happening far away from any set or stage.
Plaza and Abbott are officially parents, with their baby girl beginning an entirely new chapter for the couple.
