As We Continue to Remember Wham’s George Michael…

Wham!, the 80s super group was simply one of the most talented duos ever. Wham! consisted of classmates Andrew Ridgeley and George Michael, the latter suddenly passed away this past Christmas Day. George was known to have a wonderful sense of humor, so let’s share a few fun facts that we know he’d get a chuckle out of…

The band Queen seriously considered asking George to replace Freddy as the lead singer, but never acted on the impulse.

George was a highly decorated singer, earning 21 various awards with 50 nominations.

In spite of his international fame and fortune, his only appearance on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine was in 1988.

As music often is, the irony of George’s chart success is that his only number one song in the UK was the Aretha Franklin duet from 1987, “I Knew You Were Waiting (for me).”

George Michael was such a Beatles fan, that he bought John Lennon’s Steinway piano at auction, (the piano where “Imagine” was born) and donated it to Liverpool’s Beatles Story museum.

Finally, the estate of George Michael is valued to be worth in excess of $220 million USD.
