Ann Wilson’s Onstage Wheelchair Use Explained by Sister Nancy

Fans attending Heart’s Royal Flush Tour have expressed concern upon seeing lead singer Ann Wilson performing in a wheelchair. To address these worries, guitarist Nancy Wilson clarified that Ann’s use of the wheelchair is due to a recent elbow injury, not a recurrence of her previous health issues. Nancy emphasized, “She kicked that cancer’s ass. Then she broke her arm and is now in a wheelchair, so we had to make sure there was a little disclaimer at the beginning of each show – ‘Don’t worry, it’s not the worst. It’s not what you think.'”

Ann sustained the injury after slipping on ice while leaving a rehearsal in Nashville, resulting in a broken elbow that required surgical repair with screws. Despite the pain and limited mobility, Ann remains committed to performing, opting to sing seated to maintain balance and focus. She reassured fans on her podcast, stating, “I’ll be up and out of it after a while.”

The Royal Flush Tour marks Heart’s return to the stage after a hiatus during which Ann underwent successful cancer treatment. The band continues to deliver powerful performances, with Nancy noting, “It’s lovely to be back at the rock job… and seeing Ann killing it every night, even though she has to be in the chair right now.”
