On Thursday, September 5th, rap legend Nicki Minaj shocked fans with an abrupt tweet saying she would be retiring from music to get a head start on her family life with partner Kenneth “Zoo” Petty. The retirement tweet has since been deleted.
Since rappers rarely ever actually retire, many in the hip-hop community were skeptical of Nicki’s announcement, while others were heartbroken over Minaj stepping away from music and hanging up her mic. TMZ reports that the Queens native had made studio plans to record with artists in the coming days. The 36-year-old had told The Joe Budden Podcast that she was also working on her fifth album.
Minaj’s fans were left with mixed feelings, mostly negative, and asking Minaj for some type of explanation from the rapper.
“I’m still right here,” the Young Money rapper replied to one fan on Twitter. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”
Fans should get some sort of closure from an upcoming episode of Queen Radio.
